Job Duties

Under the general supervision of the Vice President and Athletic Director, the Head Men's Lacrosse Coach will provide leadership and guidance with all aspects of the intercollegiate men’s lacrosse program. The Head Men's Lacrosse Coach will work to provide optimal playing conditions for LaGrange College men’s lacrosse student-athletes which will include activities such as supervision of the Callaway Education Building, Panther field, locker room and the maintenance and security of all men’s lacrosse related equipment and supplies. The Head Men's Lacrosse Coach will provide information and evaluations regarding recruits, roster development, budget reports, game personnel and staff.

 

  • The Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach develops and maintains a system to identify potential recruits and to work closely with area high school coaches, two year college coaches and parents to recruit quality student-athletes to LaGrange College;

  • Works to encourage the development of psychological, social, and mental skills necessary for the student-athletes to be successful in the classroom, on the court, and in future endeavors;

  • Works with Admissions to expedite the registration, admission, and other administrative processing of all student-athletes;

  • Develops practice plans, position assignments, game strategies, individual work-outs and strength and conditioning needs for various student-athletes;

  • Serves as a role model for student-athletes by exhibiting ethical and professional conduct at all times;

  • Provides oversight of athletes and residing in campus housing; reports damage(s), needed maintenance, security issues, etc. to Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach, Athletic Director, Director of Housing, Security, and National Maintenance Services;

  • Represents and promotes LaGrange College at various civic, community, speaking, fundraising and marketing events;

  • Maintains confidentiality of information exposed to in the course of business regarding students, supervisors or other employees;

  • Contributes to a safe educational and working environment by participating in all drills and training and being prepared to take action should a health or safety emergency occur;

  • Oversees the budget;

  • Assists in all aspects of men’s lacrosse camps held at LaGrange College;

  • Oversees men’s lacrosse work study students by providing them with responsibilities and maintaining hours;

  • Serves as the game day manager for specified home games (potential sports-men’s/women’s soccer), providing workers from the men’s lacrosse team to carry out regular home game responsibilities.

     

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master's degree preferred.

  • Coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level is required

  • Experience competing at the collegiate level is preferred

  • Ability to evaluate physical performance related to an inter-collegiate men’s lacrosse program

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills is required. Ability to effectively communicate both within and outside the College including, but not limited to, student-athletes, parents, recruits, coaches, civic and business leaders is required;

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to evaluate physical performance related to an inter-collegiate men’s lacrosse program

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills is required

  • Must possess the ability to effectively communicate both within and outside the College including, but not limited to, student-athletes, parents, recruits, coaches, civic and business leaders is required

  • Ability to work as a support individual within a group setting

  • Ability to provide effective leadership to student-athletes to encourage both successful academic development and competitive performance

     

Work Environment:

  • Position involves both inside sedentary work and on the field coaching and training situations with student-athletes;

  • Demonstration of appropriate men’s lacrosse skills may involve strained muscles or orthopedic related injuries from running, throwing, shooting, etc;

     

Special Requirements:

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends (long hours)

  • Must have current training in First-Aid and CPR
