Job Summary

 

Under the direct supervision of the Athletic Director, the Cheerleading Coach is responsible for choreographing and teaching cheer/dance routines to the cheerleading squad. The Coach is responsible for setting and conducting practice times after academic classes and supervising the team at men’s and women’s basketball and football games and any other activity where the squad cheers.


Job Duties (but not limited to):

  • Choreograph and teach cheer routines to the cheerleading squad;
  • Set and conduct practice times during the week;
  • Supervise and direct the cheerleading squad during men’s and women’s basketball and football games;
  • Enforce the rules of the squad, including those regarding tardiness, missed practices/games, or unsportsmanlike conduct;
  • Hold tryouts for new members each year;
  • Attend cheerleading camp with the squad each summer;
  • Operate the cheerleading budget;
  • Oversee the squad during stunting practice for safety measures. Cheerleaders must always stunt on the mats;
  • Plan an end-of-season banquet for the squad.
  • Encourage cheerleaders to participate in other campus events and service projects;
  • Plan team building, morale-building activities for the squad.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree is required with prior experience in cheerleading and choreography. Cheerleading experience at the collegiate level is preferred.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication, managerial and planning skills required
  • Ability to interact positively with staff, faculty, student-athletes and the general public
  • Ability to work within budget guidelines
  • Promotes a commitment to academic excellence
