Description

I. POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Director of Sports Performance, the Intern(s)(s) is responsible for assisting the Director of Sports Performance in all aspects of the Sports Performance program. This position is responsible for providing leadership and support in helping to develop general policies, managing regulatory responsibilities, and providing sports program oversight in the area of strength and conditioning.

 

The Intern(s)(s) is also responsible for helping to design and implement a comprehensive and  research-based strength and conditioning programs tailored for assigned sports programs. In addition, the Intern(s)(s) will also assist in conducting and supervising specific training sessions of assigned  sports programs.
 

The Intern(s)(s) will have a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment with a  strong history of the building and sustaining relationships with student-athletes, coaches and support staff. The  Intern(s)(s)(s) will also play a vital role in developing a positive and supportive organizational culture by providing leadership in support of the College's Vision, Mission, and Core Values.   

II. RESPONSIBILITIES INTERN(S)(S):

  1. Designs and implements a sport-specific strength and conditioning program that facilitates maximum benefits for assigned sports programs.
  2. Maintains positive working relationships with members of the LaGrange College Athletics Department student-athletes, coaches and support staff.
  3. Coordinates strength and conditioning  programs to implement at practices and captain-led sessions, including warm-ups, cardiovascular training, agility, flexibility, and recovery.
  4. Communicates and collaborates with Head Coaches and the Director of Sports Performance on performance enhancement, injury prevention,  conditioning and recovery, best practices for assigned sports programs.
  5. Maintains student-athlete records and monitors the progress of strength and conditioning training programs for assigned sports teams.
  6. Ensures proper operating procedures of the strength and conditioning venue with a focus on safety education, inclusion, and holistic growth.
  7. Assists the Director of Sports Performance in maintaining accurate inventory and control all supplies and equipment.
  8. Works flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, and weekends (travel may be required).

III. PHYSICAL DEMANDS-WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  1. This position involves both inside sedentary work and outside work in coaching and training activities with student-athletes.

IV. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor's Degree required (by date of employment).
  2. Experience in the sports performance industry is required.
  3. Either National Strength and Conditioning Association or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association certification required (by date of employment).
  4. Must be certified in First Aid/CPR.

  3. Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  4. Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  5. Ability to interact effectively with a diverse group.
  6. Ability to evaluate physical performance related to a sports program.
  7. Ability to effectively communicate both within and outside the College, including, but not limited to: student-athletes, parents, recruits and coaches.
  8. Ability to work as a support staff member within a group setting.

8-month appointment – (August, 2021- March 31, 2022)
Part-Time 29 hours per week, $7.25 per hour
Housing: On-campus apartment (Two-four Intern(s)(s)s per apartment)
Utilities & Meals included.
