Description

Job Duties (but not limited to):

  • Assists in providing leadership and direction in the design and implementation of the College’s overall internship and career-based experiential learning program.
  • Develops partnerships with employers, alumni, faculty, foundations, and other campus contacts to create internship and career-based experiential learning opportunities for students.
  • Facilitate student career opportunities in appropriate internship assignments with employers, advising students through the search process, reviewing application materials, and preparing students for interviews.
  • Assist in providing leadership and support for College-wide and job workshops/fairs.
  • Participate in local and national internship professional organizations and networks.
  • Assists in maintaining data on internship and employment positions as well as reporting on those data.
  • Assist in managing the Panther Job Board which includes cultivating job positing and updating employer contact information.
  • Manage daily appointments which include preparing, coaching, and advising students and alumni on job searching, including assistance with resumes, cover letters, thank you letters, social media accounts, and e-mails; maintaining up-to-date knowledge of graduate school opportunities.
  • Assist in developing, organizing, and executing Cultural Enrichment (CE) events, workshops, and presentation on behalf of the Center for Leadership and Career Development
  • Participate in community organization events to increase name recognition for the institution and in effort to develop business, educational, and community relationships.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive student leadership development program for the College.
  • Serve on various College committees and/or task forces as requested.
  • As with all Division of Student Engagement employees, the Internship Coordinator and Career Advisor is expected to engage in continual professional development by maintaining a knowledge of current literature, trends, and best practices in student affairs/higher education administration as well as conducting themselves in a professional manner that promotes the mission of the Division of Student Engagement and the College.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean for Student Development and Sr. Director for the Center Leadership and Career Development and Counseling Services

Minimum Qualifications

Either a Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of direct professional career development experience - or - Master’s degree in higher education, human resources, student affairs, public administration, counseling, law, or related field from an accredited institution and zero years of professional experience.  Previous experience in career advising or developing business/non-profit partnerships required.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be proficient with word processing, database, spreadsheet, e-mail, and presentation software programs. 
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn student information systems (Banner).
  • Knowledge of FERPA regulations for handling confidential and/or student records.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with community organizations, public/private agencies, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Familiarity with employment law and employment recruiting trends.
  • Commitment to the mission of church affiliated liberal arts institutions like LaGrange College.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to issues of diversity, inclusion, and social justice in the collegiate setting.
  • Proven record of being able to utilize effective time management, organization, prioritization, and attention to detail while performing multiple duties, often under stress.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the connection between student affairs and the educational mission of the College.
  • Proven record of innovative and strategic thinking as well as a passion for building and adapting programs to meet the changing needs of today’s students.
