Job Duties

Reporting to the Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Experience, the Director of Housing and Student Life:

  • Manages a residential living community of approximately 700 beds located throughout 9 residence halls across the campus.  Housing options include both traditional and apartment-style options.
  • Supervises full-time Area Coordinators, an Administrative Assistant and student resident assistants (RA).
  • Responsible for developing a comprehensive plan to deliver residential and student life programming that promote personal and social growth, create community, and promote affinity and connections among students.  
  • Attends regular meetings with the Enrollment Management and Student Experience leadership team to plan and execute strategic imperatives. 
  • Plans, administers, and monitors departmental budget to ensure responsible stewardship and maximum impact to the student experience.
  • Provides regular staff meetings to promote communication and professional development among professional and student staff.
  • Facilitates resident check-in and check-out processes.
  • Assists with the check-in and check-out process for summer residents and outside groups/summer campus that are using the residential facilities.
  • Coordinates with appropriate campus partners to provide student support and intervention when needed and makes appropriate referrals.
  • Intercedes regarding policy violations and makes appropriate referrals.
  • When needed, serves as conduct officer and facilitates roommate mediations.
  • Provides a visible and accessible presence to students at campus events and in the residence halls.
  • Serve as Advisor to the LaGrange College Student Government Association, representing student concerns to the college administration, and serve as an advocate for students.
  • Represents the Office of Housing and Student Life at college functions and events.
  • Manages keys and completes key audits as needed for all residential areas.
  • Coordinates break housing, including communication to/with students and break requests.
  • Assists with room selection and new student housing placement/roommate matching.
  • Supervises summer student worker staff and leads these individuals in the completion of special projects, including but not limited to, assessment of rooms and common spaces in the residence halls and apartments, replacement and installation of apartment amenities and moving furniture.
  • Other duties as assigned by the VP for Enrollment Management and Student Experience.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling or Higher Education, or a related field.
  • Five years of professional experience in a college environment, with at least three years in Housing.
  • Significant experience with student leadership development and large-scale event planning.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, including late night and weekends.

  • Ability to articulate the values and outcomes of a liberal arts institution and demonstrate a commitment to private liberal arts and sciences education.
  • Excellent professionalism and commitment to provide superior customer service.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills and ability to maintain accurate records while managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
